I was in the clubhouse yesterday watching the LPGA's P&G and Irene Cho hit a terrible slice on 18 that hit the cart path and took off towards a hospitality tent. Due to poor Golf Channel Coverage (she was leading at the time) I didn't get to see her hit out of trouble. What I did get to see was the normally pleasant and always well mannered Cho bogey the hole. Despite her bogey the crowd of PAYING FANS cheered her bogey!!!! Cho being a bit miffed at her bogey failed to acknowledge the crowd and proceeded with the ritual of hugs for players and caddies etc. Now first let me say that Irene Cho is great with the crowds and fans in general. So I thought well I will giver her a pass after all she was leading and got a tough break etc. Then later in the day I got to thinking about it. In a time when the LPGA is struggling to fill it's schedule for next year and a rough economy I think it was a bad move. The players know the fans drive the tour and without them you have no job. So as much as I would like to give Ms. Cho a pass, I just can't! Sorry Irene your still the bomb in my book!
On a lighter note! Karen Stupples has been playing some good first round golf the last few tournaments. It would be nice to see the golfer/mom/wife put together a good solid tournament this week. Anna Rawson is another first round wonder she has been starting strong but fades after the idea of contention hit's her. If you keep your eye on Paula Creamer, Michelle Wie, and Natalie Gulbis you will understand what I've been saying about warning track power. They charge into the top ten on the last day. Never into contention, Just into the top ten! This is how they make their living! Michele Wie has 6 top ten finishes this year but has never been in contention and Paula Creamer has 8 top tens and been in real contention only once and fell apart. Natalie has two top tens and only just snuck into the top ten by shooting lights out on a Sunday. So you people who are waiting for any of these players to win soon, It's going to be awhile I'm afraid.
