I'm going to try and broach a touchy subject but try to do it with some amount of class. I really do enjoy the LPGA and it contains some of the very best and most fundamental golf swings and fiercest competitors in golf. I like it more than the PGA Tour for the simple fact that there is more of an even playing field.
From a mans point of view and a sub 2 handicap the view of Country Club women golfers changes. Does anyone out there have any women golfers out there that can really play? I don't mean hit it decent a majority of the time I mean really play!
Here is the thing there are lots of women at most clubs who love golf and have real potential to be able to play the game with a fair amount of competence. The reason they don't I believe is they don't practice. When 18 and 22 handicaps win the club championship why do they need to. Do you ever see a woman on the range by herself or out playing a quick nine and hitting multiple balls to the green from 150 yard and in? It's social for women more so then men. Having the nicest outfit to golf in takes priority over being able to chip or putt. I'm not saying this is right or wrong only that it's more like putt putt to women but with expensive clothes and equipment. The once a week foursome is just fine and any other trips to the club are for dinner or drinks.
Men on the other hand are forced to improve to gain respect within the membership. They don't just hope they play well they work on it to insure they do. They stop on the way home and hit a bucket of balls or go to the driving range between meetings.
Men playing golf with women is almost always a bad thing. As a man you will find that women will play golf for years and still never understand it. They enjoy being out side and the cart and the sun and the food and the friendship and maybe if you find a really special one, the golf. It's quite obvious to me that men and women were not supposed to golf together. They use different tee's, different smaller equipment, even the balls for the women are different.
Here are my experiences golfing with women. You are waiting to tee off on the first tee. I mean really waiting because your buddy Joe is ahead of you and brought his wife to play and if she hits a ball in the air(after being a member for nine year) it's the highlight of her round. so finally she has hit six shots and is far enough down the fairway you can hit. So you hit then you get in the cart but the lady your playing with is talking to the lady waiting to tee off about cookies for the fundraiser at the school. Finally you get her in the cart and drive to the ladies tee. She gets out and says wow I better stretch a little and proceeds to go through a mini yoga adventure. Now half a dozen practice swings and she is ready but opps forgot a tee. You give her a tee and she tee's it up and steps back and eyes it down. Three more practice swings and she finally addresses the ball. She takes her robotic like swing and tops it and it rolls about 85 yards. She acts like she has no idea what happened and proceeds to put her club in her bag and get into the cart(smiling like this is the best day of her life) so you can drive the 85 yards to her ball and do it all over again less the stretching. Now ask yourself ladies why would any man on the planet want to put himself through that for 6 plus hours when he plays around with three other men in 3 1/2 to four hours. That means there is 2 to 2 1/2 hours of talking about nonsense, practice swinging and dis-ownership of poor shots in a typical female-male round of two players.
Now ladies on a positive note I do enjoy an early evening care free round when the course isn't busy at all. Just playing and talking and enjoying just being with an intelligent and funny lady who has something to offer on the issues of the day. I do however wish that if women want to golf that they really golf and try to improve. There is a reason they have PAR and the challenge of golf is getting to PAR or the journey of getting there. Improving is the basis of golf and the reason it's such a gigantic business today. Improving is the very best part of golf for everyone.
